Pretty In Plaid

Hi kids!

I know I haven't posted in a while...I've got about a million irons in the fire right now and time just got away from me, but I did want to tell you about a great book coming out today. Well, I can't actually tell you it's a great book because I haven't read it yet. But I will. Probably today. All of it. It's called Pretty In Plaid: A Life,  a Witch, and a Wardrobe or The Wonder Years Before the Condescending, Egomaniacal, Self-Centered Smart Ass Phase.

At any rate, Jen Lancaster is a blogger and an author that I love. And I mean love. In a pink, puffy paint heart kind of way. I am a huge fan of good memoir-style books and she is the queen. She's written three other books and they are so worn and dog eared at my house that I may have to buy new copies just to be able to see the print. And I'm not a "read things more than once" type of gal, typically. If you'd like to enjoy a taste of her writing, head on over to her blog to check it out. She's been doing some great photo posting on the 80's that I can promise you'll enjoy.

My favorite one of her books is Such a Pretty Fat: One Narcissist's Quest To Discover If Her Life Makes Her Ass Look Big, Or Why Pie Is Not the Answer. (She is the queen of the subtitle.) If you've ever struggled with your weight--and let me clarify. Being a size four and feeling like "you've got a little baby weight you're still trying to get off" does NOT count as "struggling" and, in fact, makes the rest of us not like you when you talk about it incessantly at the gym. But I digress. Such A Pretty Fat will have you laughing so hard--out loud--that it will actually count as an ab workout. As I said, I have read it so many times that the cover is starting to wear off.
So because I've enjoyed the rest of her books so much, I can pretty much guarantee that you'll enjoy this new one out today. So go grab it and have a good laugh. And grab the other ones while you're at it...they're all out in paperback. I promise you'll thank me later. You'll thank me before you've even READ the books because the subtitles are so great.

Hope all's well in your worlds. I'll get back to some money-saving stuff soon. :)

Great Post from Stephanie at TotallyTogether.com

This is a post from one of my favorite folks in the blogging world. It's spot on and kind of summarizes the turning points and decisions I've made in my own life over the last year. Read and enjoy!

Kroger and Publix this week!

There are good deals out there this week! Especially if you've been clipping multiple papers' worth of coupons! Here are my favorite deals at Publix and Kroger:

PUBLIX:
Marie Calendar's Pasta Al Dente Frozen Entrees--BOGO for $2.99 at Publix which makes them about $1.50 each. If you have the coupon from a week or so ago you can get another $.75 off, which makes these only $.75 each. I haven't tried them, but they look yummy so I bought FIVE! :)

Glade Candles--BOGO for $3.49. This makes them about $1.75 each. When you add in the $1/2 coupon from the paper a couple of weeks ago, it makes them only $1.25 each. And they smell yummy!

Campbell's Cream Soups are a dollar each this week and there are assorted coupons out there to make those even cheaper.

Advil is on sale this week--a 50 count bottle for $4.49. There was a $1 off coupon in (I think) last week's paper, so for less than $3.50 you can get a 50 count bottle of Advil.

Quaker Oatmeal is on sale for $1.99. I used a $1/2 coupon and a $1/1 coupon, bought three boxes and got three boxes for less than four bucks.

My total at Publix today was $18.76 and I saved $26.76

KROGER:

Milk is on sale for $1.99 so I bought two gallons of that with expiration dates pretty far out. That's a good price for milk. Some folks will buy and freeze, but I just don't want to risk yucky milk, so I don't do the freezer thing. If you're brave, give it a whirl..this is a great price.

Kellogg's Cereals--on sale for between $2 and $3 a box depending on the brand. A couple of weeks ago there were $1/1 coupons in the paper, so I bought two boxes of pretty cheap cereal today.

Angel Soft Toilet Tissue: Four pack sells for $1.28. There have been coupons for $.50 off lately, so when doubled, that gets you a four pack of tissue for $.28. I bought five. Love cheap TP!

Starbucks Chocolate: The small (3 oz) bars are on sale this week for 2/$3 (remember you don't have to buy both to get the sale price). This makes each bar $1.50. There was a $1/1 coupon recently in the paper, so you can use that with the sale to get some good chocolate cheap! Fifty cents...can't beat that! I bought five...we'll see how long they last. :)

Split Chicken Breasts are on sale for $.99 a pound this week as well. That's a decent deal on chicken. I bought a pack today, brought it home, trimmed off the skin and threw it in the crockpot. I sprinkled on some poultry seasoning and wrapped it all up in about four pieces of bacon. How easy was that and trust me, I will have happy boys at my house tonight!

My Kroger total OOP today was $36.51 (I bought quite a bit of produce and some other odds and ends not mentioned above) and I saved $22.08. Not as great as Publix, but Kroger never really is. You can't argue with twenty-eight cent toilet paper, though. You just can't. :)

Have a great week shopping! Let me know if you find any other great deals!

Here is one of my favorite resources for Publix deals and here is one of my favorite resources for nearly everything else.

Wal Mart

Here's a link to a posting of some of the newest and best ongoing deals at Wal Mart. They don't double coupons, so your Qs won't go as far, but of course their prices are low to begin with so sometimes it's still worth a trip. Check out what's on sale and you be the judge!

Krogering Again

If you haven't been to Kroger to get your free deodorant, hurry! You only have a day or so left! Suave deodorant is 10/$10 this week and a few weeks ago there was a coupon in the paper for $.50 off, which of course Kroger doubles to make free deodorant! I bought five when I finally found a Kroger last night with them in stock! In addition, Pilsbury brownies (10/$10) are almost free with $.35 off coupon from the paper and if you haven't started buying your Johnson's Buddies, remember that you get catalina (register) coupons to make them almost free once you buy your first two. Those are definitely my favorite deals at Kroger this week, so get them while they last!

Don't forget that you can get a rain check for these items if your store is out!

Organization

I've gotten several questions lately on how I stay motivated with all of my couponing. First off, the amount of money I'm saving is certainly the biggest factor in what keeps me going. I've found, though, that staying organized and on top of my game from week to week is really important as well. I thought I'd share my process with you so that you can see how I make sense of so many papers each week and manage to keep them in some semblance of order. We all know that the most frustrating thing in the world is knowing there's a coupon for something somewhere in all of our "stuff" but having no idea where it is.
Here's how I process my papers each week.

1. First, I separate the insert into individual pages and collate them by page. I usually do five papers each week so I tear each insert apart and stack them five at a time. This helps later when I'm clipping them because I clip all five at one time by stacking the pages. It doesn't always make for the prettiest coupons, but it gets the job done a lot faster than trying to do each page individually. This week I was behind by a week (NEVER A GOOD IDEA!!!) and so I had a HUGE stack of paper to get through. Here's the stack before I actually started to cut...

2. After I separate the coupons out by pages, then I lay out my index cards. I have one index card for each page in my coupon binders. As I cut the coupons I sort them by category. They fill my coffee table:

...and they also carry over onto the floor as well.

3. Clip, clip, clip. I only do this after the kids are in bed and while there's hopefully something relatively interesting on TV because--no doubt about it--this is BORING. It has to be done, though, so it's best to multitask while you're working on it.

4. As I clip, I sort by category and lay the coupons out on the index cards as I go through them. It ends up looking something like this:

Once everything is clipped and laying on the index cards, it only takes a second to flip through your binder and insert the coupons into their appropriate pages. I keep the index cards in order so that this part of the process goes really quickly. I hate all the flipping around in the book, so that's why I created this system to organize before I start trying to put things into the books.

If you stay on top of things each week, this really doesn't take all that long once you have your system down. Is it fun? Not really. Is it helpful and useful and worth every minute? Without a doubt!!

Quick Kroger Trip today

Well, unfortunately I got all of this put away before I had taken a picture and I'm far too lazy to get it all back out for a photo op. :) At any rate, I wanted to make you guys aware of some good deals going on at Kroger this week. Pilsbury brownies are on sale 10 for $10 this week, which makes them a dollar each. A couple of weeks ago there were coupons for $.35 off a Pilsbury brownie mix in the paper. Once Kroger doubles that, the brownie mixes are $.30 each. Can't beat that! I bought 5. (Another perk to buying multiple papers!)
In addition, Suave deodorants are on sale for 10 for $10 and there were .50 off coupons a few weeks ago in the paper for those, which makes them FREE! Unfortunately I can't find a Kroger with them in stock, but I'm going to keep looking!
In addition to the brownie mixes, I also bought three more Johnson's Buddies with a coupon for $2.50 off of three and got another coupon to do the same deal next time I go. If you haven't started stocking up on free or almost free Johnson's Buddies soaps, you're missing out. I'm up to about 20 in my stockpile, but my pal Katie has to be over 60 by now. Insane, right? But she's using them for her kids' treat bags at their birthday parties...great idea, right?! And they're FREE!
Hope you can snag some good deals at Kroger this week...the 10 for $10 sale is always a good time to stock up!

Natural Foods Warehouse

This is exciting!! For those of you who like to buy natural and organic food and live in the northern suburbs of Atlanta, this place is a find! The Natural Foods Warehouse is located off of the Mansell Exit of GA 400 and offers the same type of foods that you'd find at Whole Foods, but at wholesale prices. I had a great trip there today and was really excited at all the things I found! You will never find these kinds of foods as cheaply as you will find the processed stuff in the grocery store, but you can definitely tell that this place is discounted from what you'd pay in some other stores. They don't offer produce, but they have a HUGE selection of packaged foods, drinks, dairy items, frozen items and my favorite: dietary supplements. The prices are great...I will definitely be going back.

Here's what I bought today:

I spent $48.55, which is clearly WAY more than I'd spend at the grocery store for a quantity this small, but this is good stuff that my son and I will definitely benefit from.
Here's the rundown:

Super Seed Powder (the huge jar)--this is a fiber supplement that will last us a looong time, I hope. It was $17.28

Apple Cinnamon Granola (the green bag)--this was my true splurge, but I wanted to try it. It's a "live" granola, which means it hasn't been cooked and it's made of really, really good grains without a lot of sugar. It is also processed in a dedicated facility and since my son has a nut allergy, that's a big deal for us. This bag was $9.68 (ouch!!)

Not Nuts! Trail Mix--I'm hoping I can get my son interested in this--it's full of yummy seeds and such but has a little sprinkling of chocolate chips and raisins. I'm hoping he'll like it. Another item that's processed in a dedicated facility...very difficult to find trail mixes and granolas that my son can eat. This one was $3.48

Instant Oatmeal--I thought this was a steal. This box was only a few cents more than Quaker was on sale today at Kroger. This kind, though, has no corn syrup, no artificial flavors or colors or any of that wacky stuff and it was only $2.79!

4 containers of Coconut Milk yogurt--My son is addicted to yogurt, but that amount of cow's milk just isn't doing his body any favors, as we're learning. My doc suggested coconut milk yogurt, so even thought it's expensive, I thought we'd give it a go and see how he liked it. I bought four containers for $1.45 each

Chlorophyll supplements--This is for my son and they were $4.60

Annie's Noodle Express microwaveable meal--I just wanted to try it. I thought it looked yummy. :) It was $2.66

Bottom line, if you're into dietary supplements or natural, organic foods, this is definitely worth checking out. I'm not sure if they accept coupons...I forgot to ask. I'll update once I learn, because I'm sure to be back!

Rite Aid Trip April 19th

Rite Aid is it's own animal for "playing the drugstore game", but it's really worth it if you're careful about saving your receipts. They offer "single check rebates" (SCR) which are money back for certain products after you register your receipts online. It's more straight-forward than CVS, but there is a bit of waiting because you only process SCRs once a month.

I'll talk you through what I got at Rite Aid today...

Skintimate Shave Gel on sale 2 for $4.00
Colgate Toothpaste on sale $2.49
Tampax on sale $5.99
Johnson & Johnson Tape on sale, buy one get one free for $3.99
Huggies Pull Ups on sale $8.99

Coupons used:
$3.00 off 2 J&J products
$.75 off Colgate
$3.00 off Pull Ups (from today's paper)

Total: 15.49
Used February's Single Check Rebate (actually works like a check when you checkout) in the amount of $10.99
Paid $4.50 with a giftcard earned by transferring a prescription to Rite Aid

Total OOP: $0.00!!

I'll also get a rebate for about $8-$9 for this transaction as well that I'll use for next month's goodies!!

***The most important thing about Rite Aid is keeping track of those receipts and then the SCRs when they come in the mail. You must have your receipts to register online for the SCRs and then when they come in the mail, you've got to keep up with them until it's time to use them again!

CVS Trip #2 April 19th

Today I made two transactions at CVS because I had two of the $4 off health and beauty coupons to use. Sometimes it's easier to do things in separate transactions because you can roll your ECBs from one to the next. In this case, however I used my second Extra Care Card (technically in my husband's name) because I needed to "roll" some ECBs from that card before they expired. (If you're clueless of what I'm talking about, go down one post, link to the tutorials and catch up for big savings!)

Today I took advantage of the "spend $25 in Aveeno products, get $10 ECBs" deal because I looooove Aveeno. Here's what I bought...

Total OOP: $9.42
Total ECBs: $10.00
The three cleansers were $7.00 each and the two body washes were $6.00 each. I then used the $4.00 off health and beauty coupon, a printable coupon for $10 off 3 Aveeno products, a printable $2 off 1 Aveeno purchase and then $12.98 in ECBs. Even though I spent a little more on this transaction out of pocket, I still made a profit of $.58. Not bad for some high dollar products.

CVS Trip #1 April 19th

I'm such a big fan of "CVSing" (yes, it's a verb!) and I'm really thankful to all of the great websites that put together the deal scenarios each week for their readers to follow. I'm hoping in the future, to have my act together so that I can pass those along to you because they do ALL THE HARD WORK FOR YOU! There's very little thought involved in how to get the best bang for your buck at all of the drugstores when you just know the right places to look.

Here's what I got today at CVS...

Total OOP: $1.18

A DOLLAR!!!!!! AND EIGHTEEN CENTS!!!

And I got $16.89 back in ECBs for next time!!

So how did I do it? I'll give you the run down...

Purchases:
Tresemme Shampoo on sale for 3/$10-I bought 6 = $20.00
Crest Pro Health on sale for $2.88--I bought 2 = $$5.76
Edge Shave Gel on sale for $2.89--I bought 1

Coupons:
6 $1.00 off Tresemme products coupons
1 $.50 off Crest Toothpaste (I had two...would've done even better if I'd remembered to use it!)
1 $4.00 off any beauty purchase CVS coupon (this one came via email this week. If you don't have your Extra Care Card connected to your email address, DO IT NOW! You get lots of good high dollar coupons from doing so.)
3 Extra Care Buck coupons totalling $17.47

Total OOP: $1.18
Total ECBs received: $16.89

****************************
If you've never done CVS before, there are some great sites on the web to get you started with the process. There's a great tutorial here if you're just starting out and really need the very basics of how to do the CVS thing. If you're aware of how it works, this site is doing a CVS from the Ground Up series where you can start building your Extra Care Bucks along with her week by week. It's VERY cool and if you've never done CVS before, I highly recommend it. She's on week 3 but you can jump in anytime-- plus she'll link you to past weeks. As you can see this week from my purchases...it's a great way to get free or almost free health and beauty items.

Gymboree Trip April 19th

So I've posted before about shopping at Gymboree and how I learned recently that even though their clothes at retail price are ridiculously expensive, they offer enough sales and specials to make it worth the purchase if you play your cards right. Today I redeemed my most recent "Gymbucks" from a trip that I made to the outlet mall near our home recently. For every fifty dollars you spend, they give you a coupon for $25 off of your next $50 purchase. I bought quite a lot of clothes for my boys a few weeks ago on clearance at the outlet and received these "Gymbucks" so today I ventured down to a 'real' Gymboree store to use them. (The biggest catch with these coupons is that you can get them at the outlet, but you can't use them there.)
I feel like I did pretty well with these. This is my first try using the Gymbucks and I feel like I got some good deals.
My purchases:
Total OOP: $45.65

I guess it really doesn't look like much, but I got most of these items on clearance with the use of the Gymbucks, which basically made them 50% off ($25 off of $50) and then in addition, I had an extra 20% off coupon which I used on the items once I got to the $50 mark. (They won't let you combine the gymbucks and the 20% off coupon.)

At any rate, it may not look like much, but these clothes hold up BIG TIME to little boy abuse and I know that if I buy them for my older son, my younger one will be able to wear them later, PLUS, based on my previous experience,  I'll still get close to my purchase price if I re-sell them on ebay. If you were to buy these five items for the original prices, they would've cost $124.50. So all in all, not a bad deal. I'll definitely use the gymbucks deal again when they're available--particularly if I can buy clearance from the outlet.

Cheap Music from Amazon

Sorry to have been MIA lately, kids. Lots going on around here and not a lot of time for shopping!

Here's a great deal I came across today...150 kids songs for .99 at amazon! Can't beat that price! It's your childhood basics--Itsy Bitsy Spider (although I think they do "Eensy Weensy, which frankly I think is sacrilegious, but whatever...), Mary Had a Little Lamb, etc. My kids listen to music in their rooms pretty much all the time, so I take any I can get. In case you're wondering, these will download through Amazon's player but will go straight into your itunes program if that's your media player of choice. If your computer is smarter than you are, like mine is, you don't even have to tell it anything, it'll just send those files to itunes ready for your ipod or burning to disc. How handy is that?!

Generosity

When you become coupon savvy, you often end up with more of a product that was free or almost-free than your family could ever possibly use. This week, for instance, I bought four bottles of Kraft dressing. Frankly, it's not my favorite brand and we will NEVER use that much Kraft salad dressing. So why do I buy it anyway? So that I can pass it along to someone who might be able to use it. There are innumerable local food banks and shelters that survive based on the donations of the community. We feel like this is a great way for us to contribute to our community, so anytime I end up with an overabundance of products--or find something on a great sale that we won't use--I take it to a food bank or a shelter. Sometimes I'll send a "care package" to my husband's school so that he can give it to someone he either works with or teaches that he knows is having a bit of a hard time. We love being able to help out and it keeps me from EVER wasting these great pantry or toiletry items that we find on sale so often. Every few weeks, I take stock of the pantry and my drugstore stash and gather up all the things we have in abundance and we send them off. I encourage you to do the same...once you become really good at this process, you'll always have more than you need, so help someone else out by sharing your good fortune!

Meal Plan for April 5th

Sunday: Possibly out? There were a couple of good coupons in the paper this week, so we may take advantage and splurge by going out tonight.
Monday: Tyler Florence's Ultimate Beef Brisket with roasted red potatoes and green beans.
Tuesday: Crock Pot Spiral Sliced Maple Ham with macaroni and cheese and sweet potatoes
Wednesday: Leftover beef brisket on homemade sandwich rolls and chips and applesauce
Thursday: Slow Cooker Pinto Beans and cornbread (and the boys will probably eat ham sandwiches because God-forbid anyone at my house eat something fun like slow cooked beans.)
Friday: not sure yet--something easy because the boys are probably spending the night with my parents
Saturday: My husband and I will be at the Master's, so we'll be having pimento cheese sandwiches (seriously, the best sandwich on EARTH) and the boys will be with my parents.

Publix Trip April 5th

Total Cost: $162.18
Savings: $64.05
Total OOP: $98.13
Well, I did a lot of "stocking up" this week because I found so many good deals and had so many coupon match ups. In addition to EVERYTHING in the above picture, I also got a bag of red potatoes, a couple of pounds of sweet potatoes, some onions, some garlic and two newspapers. I ran out of room on my counter!

Some good match-ups this week:
Wheat Thins Artisan crackers: on sale for BOGO, combine with a coupon from the paper a couple of weeks ago and you can get BOTH boxes BOGO, which means they're both FREE! I did this deal twice and got four boxes. TIP: Make sure you're ready to tell the cashier when you're checking out the exact price of the crackers because then she doesn't have to look it up to write it on your coupon and you're more likely to get THIS deal as opposed to them giving you one BOGO box (at half price) free instead of BOTH boxes free. Does that make sense? I'm confused. :)

Kraft Salad Dressings: on sale for BOGO this week, combine with a $1.50 off one coupon from last week's paper and you get them for about a penny each or less...can't remember the exact price and I'm too lazy to get up and check. :) Either way--it's a good deal. I bought four of these. TIP: This is why it's beneficial to buy more than one paper. The more coupons you have for the particular item, the more times you can do the deal. I typically clip coupons from five papers each week. Sounds like a lot, but if you stack the sheets and cut them at once you're doing five times the work for the same amount of time.

Duncan Hines Cake Mixes: on sale BOGO this week. When combined with a $.35 off coupon from last week's paper, these come out to about $.10 each. As far as I'm concerned, you can never have too many cake mixes, so I usually keep about ten boxes at a time in my pantry. This was a great deal so I did it five times.  TIP: Did you know you can replace the oil in a recipe for a cake or brownie mix with applesauce to reduce the fat and calories of your baked goods? You can use this trick in almost any (sweet) recipe that calls for oil. Usually I do half and half so that you still get richness from the oil, but if you're making cupcakes for your kids and you want to cut back on the fat, go ahead and replace it all. They'll never know the difference and you're getting in an extra serving of fruit. Just make sure you buy the "no sugar added" kind of sauce. WHICH IS BOGO at Publix this week! Stock up! :)

Tropicana 50 Juice: This is Tropicana's new low-sugar orange juice and I hadn't tried it yet, so I thought this week since it was BOGO and I had a $1.00 off coupon it was worth trying for a buck. I don't do artificial sweeteners, so I'm going to have to check on the make-up of this TruVia deal that they've put in there. It's supposedly a plant extract, but I'm not sure exactly how "natural" it is...I'll do some homework on that and get back to you. We'll see if the juice is any good too.

Farm Rich French Toast Sticks: These were BOGO several weeks ago and my store was out, so I got a rain check. TIP: If EVER your store is out of a particular item that's on great sale that week, go to the customer service desk on your way out and ask for a rain check. Save your coupons and when your store restocks, you can use the rain check in combination with your coupons and still get your great deal.

"Buy Theirs Get Ours Free" Sale: Publix does these sales from time to time and I love them. They'll put their store brand up against a national brand and if you pay for the national brand, they'll GIVE you a FREE bag of the store brand to "compare". Well, I already know that Publix' brand is good, but I'll gladly take anything for free! This week I got the Quaker Rice Snacks for $2.99  and then used a $1.00 off coupon and then I got the Publix brand for free. I did the same thing with the Organic Corn chips. We can always use corn chips for something and getting both bags for about $3.99 was worth it to me for organics even though I didn't have a coupon.

Of course we had to get some eggs for dyeing this week with the kids and I got a few other incidentals that we needed. My grand total came to $98.13. Now this is definitely more than I usually spend, but this is Spring Break and my husband is home and so we'll go through more food this week than we usually would. Also I bought a couple of more expensive proteins this week, although we're going to eat on them ALL week (meal plan to follow). Anyhow, even with spending $98.13, I still saved $64.00. That's a pretty good deal, I'd say. Hope you have great success this week...let me know how you did!

Easter Parties

Tonight was the night for baking Easter cupcakes at my house. My older son's Easter party at preschool is tomorrow and I created some cute bunny cupcakes that I thought I'd share with you just in case you're trying to figure out something for a family, church or school get-together. These were really pretty easy to put together and you can take this "template" of an idea and make just about anything. They definitely look "home-made" but that's okay sometimes. It's been a long day around here and I needed something I could put together without breaking the bank or my back.

The supplies are:
2 containers of white icing: I dyed one container blue and then took a little out of the other white container and dyed it red to make the mouths.
ziploc bags for piping
pink sugar
star sprinkles
Starburst candy
chocolate sprinkles
large marshmallows
cupcakes

The icing and cake mix I got nearly free during a Publix BOGO sale. The sprinkles, marshmallows and sugar and candy I got for about a dollar each at Wal Mart. This was a super cheap project.

The Method:
Ice each cupcake blue (or whatever color you choose). Cut each marshmallow into thirds cross-ways. Take one third and cut it in half to make the ears. Dip the sticky side down into the pink sugar and then place them on the cupcake. Put about half the white icing into a baggie and clip off one corner to make a piping bag. Pipe white onto the cupcake to make the bunny's head. Cute a small piece of a pink Starburst candy and roll it in your fingers until you can form it into a nose. (You could also use pink jelly beans for this, but my Wal Mart was all sold out!) Put the stars on for eyes, the chocolate sprinkles on for whiskers. Dye a bit of the icing red, put it in a bag and then snip the tiniest corner off and pipe on a mouth.

Happy Spring Break, everyone! It's almost here!!!

New Coupon Printables

Today is the day that all of the coupon printable sites have reset their printables. So run for those sites and print what you can. They don't all last long, so you'll want to print off what you can--there are a few high dollar coupons that are worth snagging.

www.coupons.com

www.smartsource.com

Pilsbury's website has new coupons.

Home Made Simple will mail you some fairly high dollar Proctor and Gamble coupons, so this is definitely worth the short sign-up process. It only takes a second.

Stock up your printer ink and get cracking! (By the way, remember that if you buy your HP ink at Target this week you can get a $10 gift card. I don't know how their prices compare, to tell you the truth, but if they're going to give you ten bucks back, it's worth checking!)

Target Deals

I found a great posting on the web this week that will give you the best deals at Target in Excel spreadsheet format complete with links for printable coupons. I printed this out, organized my coupons and took it straight with me to the store. I had great success at Target this week getting a lot of stuff for FREE or almost free. The website is here and it's definitely one of the best I've seen lately for Target.

The great deals I got this week were the fruit snacks for free, the cheetos for almost free, the gilette body wash for free and the Artisan bread for free. A couple of notes: the cheetos and fruit snacks are located in the aisle of the registers, so look there for those. I believe the Artisan bread is only available at Super Targets. Finally, the Gilette body wash is a little tricky to find. The majority of the body washes they're carrying now are over $3. I found only three of the $2 ones on an endcap in the soap section. Fortunately I just happened to have 3 coupons, so it worked out well.

Lastly, the Target printable coupons say that you can only use one per item per transaction. My Target will accept as many as I print in one transaction, but all Targets are not created equal. Ask before you fill your cart and then don't be afraid to just make your purchase, walk right around and go back through the register again. "Per transaction" is not the same as "per day" or "per hour" or "per five minutes".  :) And always remember that you can stack a Target coupon with a manufacturer's coupon if you have it.

Have fun at Target!

How Can I Help YOU?

I'm completely fascinated by the idea that there are actually people reading my blog and it gets me all aquiver with excitement just thinking about it. ("You like me, you really like me!") At any rate, I really want this to be helpful for you-- the few, the proud, the readers. So who better to ask? What would you find interesting to read about here? There are a million websites already giving coupon and deal match-ups--I don't feel like that's going to be the best use of this cyberspace, so I'd like to know what you would find helpful. General money-saving tips? Household management stuff? Recipes? A mixture of all of the above? Speak up!

The "Change Challenge"

I've had a little experiment in mind for a week or so and I've decided that this is the week to try it. I've told you guys before that we do everything with cash now. We've found it a really valuable way to keep up with where our money goes. This week I've decided not to use any change during my transactions unless it calls for less than a dime. I'm keeping all of the money I'm saving in a jar and I'll count it at the end of the week to see what I came up with. I'm wondering if this wouldn't be a great way to start saving now for those surprise Christmas expenses that always pop up, or maybe for "mad money" for a family trip this summer. I'm anxious to see the results, so come back at the end of the week and I'll let you know how I did!

March 29th Shopping Trip

Publix Trip:
Total Cost: $65.07
Savings: $34.29
Total OOP: 30.78

There were some great deals to be had at Publix this week. I'll give you the run-down of what I bought:
2 Atlanta Journals: $2.34 each
**Publix gives you a little price break on the papers--they're supposed to sell for $2.50 each, so pick up your weekly Sunday papers at Publix!!

of a Bisquick box.--$.30
**Coupons are everywhere! Keep your eyes open!

Hormel Turkey Pepperoni- $3.69
Betty Crocker Muffin Mix- $.99
Kashi frozen Dinner: $3.49-FREE
*One of the greatest ways to get high dollar or even FREE product coupons is to sign up for free samples. They almost always come with high value coupons and you can even wind up getting some really neat stuff for FREE! I'll start trying to post lots of those links as I find them!
4 Goldfish Grahams-BOGO-$1.09each
Oscar Meyer Hot Dogs--BOGO
*I'm looking at my receipt right now and it would appear that they charged me full price for these hot dogs. I find that annoying because it means I have to go back to Publix, but it also means they'll give me a refund and I'll get the hotdogs for FREE. If ever they scan the wrong price at Publix, their policy is to refund you the full price of the item.
Lemon Juice: $.99

Publix Ranch Dressing: PENNY ITEM

Cantaloupe $.97

Kroger
Total: $80.69
Total Savings: 34.68
Total OOP: 46.01

I'll save you the gory details of every item of my Kroger trip except for a couple of highlights.

Land O'Lakes Butter: On sale for 2/$4.00 or $2.00 each. This week's paper has a coupon for $1.00 off, so I got butter today for $1 A POUND. This is a GREAT deal. If you use the "real" stuff--GO take advantage of this deal. It's worth it to buy several papers to take advantage of this deal because you'll recover the cost of your papers on each pound!

Hall's Cough Drops: This week's paper has coupons for FREE Hall's cough drops. Again, worth the price of multiple papers. I bought four.

Johnson's Buddies: Again, like I've posted before. These are almost always free or almost free. Kroger usually also gives you catalinas that make it possible to "roll" the deal. Last week I used manufacturer's Qs to get three free and then they gave me a catalina for another $3 off Buddies products, which means I turned right around this week and got three more! This week I got another catalina for $2.50.I'm getting quite a stockpile!

Over The Moon milk: This is a new product from Mayfield and a couple of weeks ago there was a $1.00 off coupon in Smartsource. You can actually buy the milk and send in your receipt and they'll give you YOUR MONEY BACK. It makes this milk FREE. I have several of these coupons and since it's one per address, I'll buy them up over the next couple of weeks and use my parents' address along with my husband's work or another friend...something like that. :)

HAPPY SHOPPING!
How did YOU do this week? I'd love to hear your stories!

Menu Planning

Remember that one of the most important rules in saving money at the grocery store is PLANNING YOUR MENUS IN ADVANCE! This cute little menu planning template is available for you to print out here. Find what works for you. You can use a printable, you can use a plain spiral-bound notebook or even index cards. I found some cute meal-plan notepads at Michael's for $1.00 last week and I used my 40% off coupon to get one really cheap. They're magnetic, so I can put them on the fridge and keep them right at a glance.

So what are we having this week at my house?

First let me say that I bought a fun cookbook today at BJs. (Their book section is my DOWNFALL--I try not to go very often because I have NO willpower.) At any rate, the book is called Top Secret Restaurant Recipes--you can see it on Amazon here. This week we're going to experiment in dishes from this cookbook.

Here's the rundown:

Sunday: Herb Marinated Pork Tenderloin (an exception: this is an Ina Garten recipe), roasted red potatoes and Hooters Pasta Salad. (Funny, right?)
Monday: Pizza Hut Triple Decker Pizza with pepperoni and mushrooms
Tuesday (easy night because of a lacrosse game and voice lessons): Hot dogs, macaroni and cheese
Wednesday: Outback Steakhouse's Alice Springs Chicken, Ruth's Chris Steakhouse's Creamed Spinach, Noodles with butter (in case the kids balk at everything else, at least they'll have something in their bellies!)
Thursday: We'll be eating out with my in-laws
Friday: Barbecue Muffin Cups (not sure what else will go with this--it's my wild card meal of the week)
Saturday: Breakfast or leftovers (I'll be out of town for a baby shower, so the guys have to fend for themselves.)

So that's the run down. I'll post my shopping lists later once I've found all of my coupon deals to share!

Dress Your Children for FREE?!?!?

There is a great post here today about how to dress your children for free. I think there's a lot of really, really useful information in it. The article is specifically geared towards Gymboree, but there are lots of ways to use this same principal at any store that offers great clearance prices or "rewards" as Gymboree does. Because we live in Cumming, I do most of my shopping for our kids at the Dawsonville Outlet mall. I almost NEVER spend more than $5 for an article of clothing. I do quite a bit of my shopping in the off season and I just assume what sizes my kids will be in (the older they get, the easier this becomes) and I stock up. Right now I have a TON of stuff for school for NEXT year all stashed away in their closets. Once the weather warms up, all this year's spring/summer stuff will start to go on clearance and you can stock up on warm weather stuff then. It's all very cyclical and it's really pretty easy to find good deals. Another tip for those with younger kids is JC Penny. They often put their store brand of separates (knit shorts/sweat pants and tshirts) on sale for about $4 apiece. I usually stock up on the "basics" when they go on sale. Granted I have boys and I'm not at all overly concerned with "fashion" but when places like Gymboree put their stuff on clearance, you can RACK UP the "cute stuff" and then you don't feel so badly when they have paint spilled on them or spaghetti spilled down the front or they get torn in the yard "working with Daddy" or whatever (can you tell I have boys?!).

Finally, if you do buy name brand clothes from Gymboree or Baby Gap or the Children's Place or wherever, they sell exceptionally well on ebay. I've sold quite a few "lots" of clothes on ebay and had great success. It wasn't complicated, the transactions were straightforward and a lot of other people got some great use out of clothes my boys had outgrown. Most of the clothes that I've sold on ebay have actually been worn by both of my boys and they're still in good enough shape to get a pretty penny out of online. The benefit of buying the name brands is that, in my experience, they do tend to hold up better.

Okay, enough of my yapping. Go read the real article. I just got some Gym-Bucks the other day on the boys' Easter outfits, so I'm going to try my hand at this whole "rewards" process in April and see how it works. I'll keep you posted!

Deals at Wal Mart

There are a lot of good deals at Wal Mart right now and you can read about them here, but my favorite deal is on Knox gelatin. You can print these coupons: one from here and one from here, buy two boxes of Knox gelatin for $1.88 each and wind up with $4.24 in OVERAGES. That means Wal Mart will PAY you FOUR DOLLARS to take home the Knox gelatin. Tuck it in your pantry for a fun fruit pie this summer or find someone at school or church that makes homemade jams or jellies and pass it along to them.

Another deal I did today was buying Mentos gum. The packages sell for $1.24 each and in the March 1st Sunday paper coupon insert there were coupons for $1 off. I had six of those coupons so today I got six packs of gum for about $1.40. Not bad, huh? And it's actually pretty yummy. :)

Easter Candy Savings

I found a great post here that gives you the run down on all of the different stores around here and what candies and snacks are on sale for Easter. I thought it was really handy since this is the time of year that we're always filling eggs for school or church or whatever. Hopefully this will give you some good ideas for saving some bucks. Double check your coupons for combo deals...I know at Publix this week our favorite Easter candy, Starburst jelly beans, are on sale for $1.50 and I'm pretty sure there's a coupon from a week or so ago for $1.00 off a bag, which makes them super cheap. And YUMMY!!!

MY SOURCES!!

Okay, I'm going to now spill the real secrets. These are the sites that I visit to help me find the really good deals. I check them all almost daily. They give me the scoop on drugstore stuff, groceries and all kinds of other exciting deals. My advice is to bookmark them all and every day when you have time for the computer, sit down and scroll through each one. I'm going to put myself out of the blogging business once you see where I'm getting my info from, but I think it's important for you all to understand the process. Hopefully I can still add value to helping you learn how to change the way you think about shopping, but here are the best sites I know of...trust me, they're worth your time!!

My two favorite sites for all things grocery/drugstore and general money-saving tips are Money Saving Mom and Money Saving Madness. These girls do not kid around. They will give you hints every single day with places you can save money, online coupons you can find, freebies you can sign up for, tips for combining coupons, etc. They will never let you down. I can't tell you how much free stuff I've gotten through tips on their page. I finally get my Martha Stewart Living itch scratched again and it's all thanks to the FREE subscriptions I heard about on these gals' pages.

Another great site for those of you in the south is Saving Your Cents. This site is great for grocery stuff as well as drugstores. These three sites do repeat themselves somewhat, but if you check them all sometimes you'll find things on one and not on the other.

One more grocery/warehouse site that's great is A Full Cup. This one you do have to register for, but it has the almighty Target Coupon Generator on it. It will pull up every Target coupon that's available currently and then you can check some of these other sites for help pairing the store coupons with the manufacturer's for deals like the Mott's deal I got the other day.

Finally, for general deals, I love GottaDeal. When you visit this site, the blue box in the top left will give you the top deals from their entire forum of information. Usually they're GREAT deals--yesterday there were Pyrex containers for $1.99--stuff like that. You can find out things from toys to electronics. And you can spend HOURS prowling around the forum for deals. It's a great spot to check when you start getting birthday/Christmas ideas running around in your head. You'll be surprised at all the cool stuff you can find.

Okay, there's the scoop. I'll try to continue helping you navigate these sites and how they can help you. Have fun playing on these sites! There is GREAT stuff in their archives, so get started looking around!!!

This week's Shopping Trips

Here are the goods from this week's trips to Publix and Kroger. It wasn't one of my better weeks--I spent about $85 total, which is way over what I typically try to spend, but there were a lot of fresh produce items on my lists this week as well as some higher priced items that I just plain needed and couldn't wait until they go on sale. I think the next thing I'm going to post on is name brand vs. store brand and brand loyalty...I get a lot of questions about that.

At any rate: Publix went pretty well...

Total Spent: $23.58
Total Saved: $24.37

My goal is always to save as much or more as I spend. This week was a good week. The packages of yogurt were a particularly good find--I got them for .25 each. They were BOGO (2/2.50) and I had a $1 off coupon for each. The cranberry juice came out to a pretty good sale, the salad came out to about $1 (it was BOGO plus I had a store coupon to stack). I also splurged on some Boar's Head deli meat, a bottle of water (I was so thirsty!) and a couple of eyeshadows, which were free. How do you get free eye shadow? In every Publix in the front when you first walk in there are Easy Saver catalogs. It's green and it's basically a sale paper with coupons inside. You can stack those coupons with a manufacturer's coupon to get some good deals. Cover girl eye shadow singles are $2.99. There is a $2.00 off coupon in the Easy Saver book and then there are $1.00 manufacturer coupons all the time in the paper, so you stack them and get free (well, a penny!) eye shadow.

Kroger:
Total Spent: $60.94
Total Saved: $19.49

Clearly I didn't reach my savings goal here, but there were just some things that we needed to stock up on. I figure that if I play the averages, almost every week I save more than this so every so often it's okay to spend a little more to stock up on the stuff that we need. I did get a good deal on the flat iron steak and the giant slab o' pork in the front there--I'm going to carve that up for a couple of night's worth of dinners. The Johnson's Buddies Soaps that are on the left were almost free. Johnson's puts out lots of coupons for these and you can find printables all over the web. The thing about the Buddies soaps are that they're always right around a dollar and the coupons are always for $1 off, so you can really stock up on these. They're actually free at Wal Mart, but the great thing about getting them at Kroger is that for every one you buy, the catalina printer (the gizmo that shoots out coupons with your receipt) will shoot out another $1 off coupon for another one. So you can "roll" this deal. From what I see so far, it will give you coupons up to 3 per transaction. So buy three for free with your coupons from the internet and then get catalinas for three more free. Pretty sweet, right? My friend Katie is stocking up on these and putting them in her kids' birthday goodie bags this year. Pretty smart! Plus, they're actually really good soaps--they last forever and the kids like them too.

Great Deals on Crocs

There are some great deals at at the Crocs website this week. I got a pair of flip flops for myself, a pair of Mickey Mouse crocs for each of my boys and six jibbitz for $70. That included free shipping (for spending $75) and then I was able to take an extra 20% discount with an online coupon code. We wear crocs year 'round, so anytime I can find a deal on them I think it's well worth it. They hold up so well--my boys have been wearing their current pair for full year. I buy them a tiny bit large and they really handle the abuse of two young boys really well. When they get dirty, I just throw them in for a cycle in the dishwasher. Can't beat that! Here are some coupon codes that I found...if you use them, they'll ask for them near the end of the process and they'll be applied just before the very last page. I can guarantee that the CHOICES009 code works since that's what I used. Happy shopping!

Everything Baked Potato Lasagna

This is the new recipe I tried this week. Mine wasn't quite this pretty, so I borrowed this image from the Paula Deen magazine website. Right off the bat, with my mention of The Butter Queen, you'll probably guess that this wasn't a super-healthy dinner, but it was definitely tasty and one that has a lot of options for lightening up, actually.
The original recipe is HERE if you'd like to try it. It actually went over really well with my very picky family and while the original called for a lot of high fat ingredients, I was able to lighten it up with some low fat sour cream and low fat cheese and then in addition I think you could even take it the next step and use cauliflower puree instead of the potatoes for a less starchy version. You could also most certainly use low fat milk instead of the cream and whole milk too. I just had a tiny portion the other night because it was pretty rich and heavy.
In general,  my husband thought it could use more bacon (but my husband thinks bacon is a food group, so consider the source). I thought it was actually a little heavy on the mashed potato mixture. I think the next time I make it I may use a little diced ham in there as well just for a little more protein. I'll decrease the potato mixture by about a pound of potatoes as well.
One perk about the recipe is that it most definitely could be made in advance and refrigerated until you're ready to bake it. I dirtied up every pot in the house twice making it, so I would advise that if you're going to make it for your family, make it in the morning when you have extra energy, throw it in the fridge and then pull it out and bake it for an hour or so...that way you're not up washing pots half the night like I was. :)

Hang in there for more coupon posts...they're coming soon.

What are you fixing for dinner this week?

I'm Just Wild About Animal Crackers...

I found the cutest little cookie cutters at the Williams Sonoma Outlet (on sale, of course!) this weekend and I just have to show them off. They're basically made of  sugar cookie dough with a little extra dose of nutmeg, but they're just adorable and the kids loved them. (And so did their dad!)

Brenda's Chicken Pie

Yummy recipe as promised...

On a rainy Sunday afternoon, there is nothing better than this comforting chicken casserole. It is one of the easiest recipes EVER invented and involves things that you can usually find in your pantry or fridge. This recipe was given to my family when I was a kid and my mom had some surgery. Ever since, it has been a go-to comfort food staple in my house. Sure, you could add veggies and health it up a little, but comfort food is comfort food for a reason. Try it like it is first. :)
Hope you enjoy!

Brenda's Chicken Pie
2 Cups cooked chicken (you can use a rotisserie chicken, leftover chicken or 2 large cans of chicken)
1 can Chicken Broth
1 can Cream of Chicken Soup
1 stick of butter, melted
1 Cup buttermilk
1 Cup self-rising flour

Spray a 13x9 inch pan with cooking spray. Spread chicken over bottom of pan. In a bowl, whisk together the two cans of soup to combine. Pour over the chicken. In same bowl, stir together melted butter, buttermilk and self rising flour until combined. (It's okay if it's not perfectly smooth--just get the big lumps out.)
Bake in a 350 degree oven for 1 hour.

Looks a little gross before it goes in the oven...

But is oh, so golden brown and delicious when it comes out!

My little members of the Clean Plate Club:
(largely because of the promise of the cookies I'll show you next...)

March 15th Shopping Trip

This week I went to Kroger early, early Sunday morning. I found a lot of "Manager's Specials" which saved me quite a bit...especially considering this was a week I wasn't able to match many coupons. I managed to save a good bit through these "Manager's Specials" on produce. I found strawberries for $1.50 a package, a pork roast for $3.74 and a 5 lb bag of potatoes for $1.50. I cut up some of the strawberries for this week and then I washed, cut up and froze the rest. All in all, not a bad week. I decided to use the pork roast instead of the chicken I was going to grill since it was cheaper, so that's a slight change to my menu plan. Also, there were no rotisserie chickens ready yet, so I ended up buying 2 cans of chicken instead.
So here's what I got...
Grand Total: $56.00

That also included a $1 donation to the Children's Miracle Network.

And yes, an Us Weekly.
Don't judge.

Shopping List for March 15th

After looking through the sale papers this week, I wasn't too impressed with the sales. Fortunately, I'm always prepared for that because I stock up when things are on sale, so it doesn't kill me when the sales aren't great...I can just make do with what we have on hand and then stock back up next week when things may be better. Quite a few of the proteins I'm using this week I had on hand in the freezer, so my shopping list is pretty short. I didn't see any overwhelmingly good deals at Publix, so I'm going to skip them this week. This is my list for Kroger:

KROGER:
Rotisserie Chicken
Split Chicken Breasts (on sale)
heavy cream
bacon (BOGO)
4 lb. baking potatoes
pint of whole milk
1 can Pisbury thin crust pizza dough (use 1 .40 off coupon, which will double)
1 box frozen spinach
1 small jar alfredo sauce
buttermilk
butter
fruit (whatever looks good)
2 cans chicken broth (use 1 $.40 off coupon that will double)
skim milk
yogurt
Ken's marinade (use $1.00 off coupon)
Eggs
Johnsons Buddies (printable coupon HERE make these free.)
Huggies (wipes or diapers depending on what deal looks best w/ coupons HERE

And that's it. I don't have a lot of coupon pairings this week because I'm buying mostly fresh products and there aren't a lot of sale/coupon pairings because there just aren't that many sales!

Just means next week will probably ROCK! :)

Menu Plan for the Week of March 15th

The first step in saving major money at the grocery store is to plan out your week's menu. I tend to only "plan" my dinners because my children aren't very creative in their lunch choices...we rotate between yogurt, cheese and crackers, sandwiches and fruit, etc. so as long as I keep those things on hand, there's usually no need to "plan" them out. Breakfast doesn't rotate much either. I keep muffin mixes, frozen waffles, eggs, cereal and the like on hand and that keeps everyone satisfied through the week.
Dinners are where I focus my planning energy and then I make my shopping list from there. I incorporate the week's plans (my husband's lacrosse games, my voice lesson nights, etc.) in the meal plan so that I can prepare for the fact that I'll only be feeding the kids on some nights or maybe I'll only be feeding "the boys" on others.

Here's this week's meal plan:

Sunday: Chicken Pie (I'll share this recipe with you tomorrow because it's the easiest, most fantastic, everyone-likes-it-dinner that I know of.)
Monday: Everything Baked Potato Lasagna (this is a new recipe...I'll let you know how it turns out), rolls from the breadmaker
Tuesday: *Lacrosse Game & Voice Lessons* Grilled Cheese and pretzels with fruit
Wednesday: Grilled Chicken, Fried Corn, another veggie that looks good at the grocery store
Thursday: Pork Chops, butterbeans, pasta
Friday: *Lacrosse Game* Easy Turkey Stromboli (another recipe I'll share)
Saturday: OUT!

Clearly, everything is subject to change. If we get a wild hair to go out to eat during the week, then the meals will just shift to make up for it. Flexibility is important! (Especially if it's been a long day and Mama doesn't feel like sweatin' it out in the kitchen!)

Quote of the Day...

What I expect from my male friends is that they are polite and clean. What I expect from my female friends is unconditional love, the ability to finish my sentences for me when I am sobbing, a complete and total willingness to pour their hearts out to me, and the ability to tell me why the meat thermometer isn't supposed to touch the bone.

-Anna Quindlen, Living Out Loud

Fantastic Coupon Opportunity!

If you're like me, I love Old Navy for my kids' clothes. They have great sales and clearances and now there's a chance to save even more money. Old Navy has started a new site called Old Navy Weekly. Drag your cursor over the screen and click and it will pop up different coupon options. There are several to choose from, although you can only use each coupon once. Supposedly if you're on at just the right time, you can actually find a $50 or even $75! off of a $100 purchase coupon. That would be exciting, right?! Just in time for switching out the winter and spring clothes! Let me know if you find any really great deals. Today I printed the $5 off a $25 Purchase If It's Raining coupon. I was just planning to go get started on some spring clothes shopping this weekend and based on the weather, I'm thinking it'll work! Have fun clicking!

Learn From My Mistakes!

Well, I was hoping for a brilliant trip to Walgreen's today...I had a prescription to fill and a coupon for a $25 credit which I was then going to use to buy some products to start getting rebates from them. I wanted to start learning how to "work" their system so that I can pass it along to you guys. Unfortunately it didn't work out that way. It wasn't a total disaster, but let me give you a couple of tips so that you can learn from my mistakes:

1. READ YOUR COUPONS CAREFULLY! Unfortunately the coupon I had for the gift card was only good for a TRANSFERRED prescription. Not a NEW one, which is what I had. I lost out on that deal. (Although next month, I will probably transfer one of my monthly prescriptions to Wag's so that I can use the coupon.)

2. IF SOMETHING DOESN'T WORK OUT, DON'T BE AFRAID TO JUST LET IT GO. As soon as she told me that the coupon wouldn't work, I should have just taken the prescription back and gone to Rite Aid. I still would've gotten $25 and it wouldn't have even added to my stops today--I was going there anyway. But the pharmacist lady was nice and I didn't want to be rude...and blah, blah, blah. The fact of that matter is that she's not paid on commission...it wouldn't have been personal had I chosen to take my prescription elsewhere.

3. IT'S BEST TO KNOW THE RETAIL PRICE OF A PRODUCT BEFORE YOU ACTUALLY GO TO THE STORE. This isn't always possible, but it can save you a lot of thought in the store. Today I bought some shampoo that I really thought I was going to end up getting almost for free based on the coupons/rebates I had, but it turned out to be a lot more expensive than I thought.

4. DON'T BE AFRAID TO WALK AWAY FROM A DEAL. Today I was hoping to get in on a diaper deal that would've given me some really cheap diapers and a rebate to boot. The diapers they had in the right size didn't match the coupons I had and it really wouldn't have been that great of a deal since they were out of the size I needed. This rule I followed today (the bright spot in my shopping)...I walked away.

5. GET THERE EARLY. When the deals for a drugstore are announced (usually on Sunday), get there as quickly as you can to take advantage of them. There are more people that you realize taking advantage of these deals and they go quickly. Almost everything I was going to get for free at Wag's today was already gone. I was hoping since it was towards the end of the week that they would've restocked from the Sunday/Monday rush, but no such luck. Shop early.

Tomorrow I'll start taking you through the process of how I plan my meals, organize my shopping list and match my coupons. If you want to follow along, pick up an early edition of the Sunday paper at your nearest convenience store tomorrow afternoon!
